'Tradescant'English Rose, 1993, Austin
As I mentioned on another page, English roses don't seem to like it here. But that color... Sort of like Smoky but with many more petals, so more variation per individual flower. It also shares, with Basye's Purple, an intangible depth of color; the color in the petals looks almost three dimensional.
Tradescant bloomed only grudgingly in 2007, and while I collected pollen for crosses, none of the hybrid hips produced seeds. So this year we'll try again.
