Walk Through The Garden, 2008previous rose ------- next rose
Shrub, 2005, Shimbo
"Number 9" was the last of the open-pollinated seedlings to germinate, by about a week. Nevertheless, she put on good growth while in the house and when she was finally planted in the garden in 2006 she had attained the same height as her siblings.
I planted her in a spot where I thought she'd do well, but the older rose next to her, "Fort Pella Pink," decided to grow like the weed it is and soon Number 9 was left mostly in the dark. She tried her best to grow in the spot in which she was planted, and ended the year with three good canes.
In 2007 I moved Number 9 and apparently, she really didn't like the move. She sulked all summer and only barely grew. We'll see if she does better this year.
