'Midnight
Blue'She's not that dark and she's hardly blue, but 'Midnight Blue' is a very dark rose with a lovely, lemony fragrance. The color in the picture at right is correct on my monitor. The flowers open this color and hold their color very well, so far. They may not do so when we have weeks on end with no rain, but right now it's been cloudy every day and the color has been consistently dark and luminous.
'Midnight Blue' is a new addition to the garden in 2007. She was planted on 21 April with several buds just about to open. As you can see, one finally did open, in the short interval of sunshine we've had since then and now. It's been pouring ever since, so I'm waiting to see how the rest of her flowers come out. Otherwise she is a good-sized, healthy bush from which I expect many great things.
