'Fara
Shimbo' aka Nightmoss No.1Moss, 2001, P. Barden
I have had Paul Barden's 'Nightmoss' for two years now, and always admired her two sisters. When I got the email from Mr. Barden asking if he could name "Nightmoss No. 1" after me, I had to read it through several times before I believed it. I couldn't stop bouncing for a week! Having a rose officially named after one is a tremendous honor, for which I am profoundly grateful.
It was a whole year before I finally got to see her bloom in person, but here she is! Yes, she's really that color! Pardon me while I bounce around a bit!
Here's another rose I intend to make good use of in my breeding program! So far, she is unbothered by bugs or the omnipresent powdery mildew we get out here. She shrugs off drought and high wind and even took a hailstorm in stride. Add to this a pleasant fragrance, and 'Fara Shimbo', if I do say so myself, is one winner of a rose!
