'Cramoisi
Picotée'Gallica, 1834, J.P. Vibert
In French, her name means "pecked crimson." I've seen this name applied to many roses, especially those bred by Vibert (as this one was) which are said to have been spotted. Some people have told me that there are spots on this rose, others have said that there aren't.
How, I ask you, could you resist such a flower? Once again, the camera betrays its true beauty. The colors in this digital photo are completely wrong (except in the broad sense that the photo does in fact show red and not blue). There are splashes, and spots, and stripes, and dots. She is a wonderful, wonderful thing!
I was hoping to gather pollen from this flower to save for hybridizing, but alas when I picked the flower and removed the over 100 petals, there was not a single stamen on the flower. Whether that will change this year or not I don't know.
She's grown quite a bit since last year, so I'm hoping for great things from her this year. Stay tuned for pictures!
